Lucky Laundry Lady

Finally a tip of something I want, not dead fish parts, animal bones, candy wrappers, rocks or trash...MONEY!

Found in various family member's pants.

However I know that most of it is my son's lunch money. Does this mean I have to give it back?

Back to school and other mysteries...

My mom asked me where the kids first day of school pics were. I told her that I took them, but 6:53 am is pretty dark outside. Besides I was still in my jammies when I went outside to take these and saw the hot mess my kids were in.

Gavin had something all over his face...and his hair. I guess he is attempting to grow it out long, girls like that I hear.

And Macey...I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with her until I saw her getting inside my car and realized that her entire dress is on backwards.

See that cute hello kitty lunch bag? It is a magic bag. When you place spoons inside, they never return.

Since school has started there seems to be a shortage of ice packs and spoons in our home. Macey swears to me that I haven't packed her any spoons to take and that I need to remember the next day. I think we are down to about one spoon per each family member. I am starting to wonder if Paul is paying the kids to lose them. For he hates spoons...remember? And he is not a big fan of the ice packs. However, the last ice pack came home empty and devoid of all blue gel.

So if you come to dinner at our house, we might ask you to byos (bring your own spoon).

The Power of Words...

I've been playing with this blog for awhile, and find it very difficult to share. I am sure that others will identify with me once they read it. Words have a powerful effect on us. That old saying "sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me." No way...words can hurt. Not only can they hurt they can heal, they can help us find ourselves, offer encouragement, push us towards who we need to be. They can free us, lead us deeper in love, or help us say good-bye.

Surprisingly words can be deeply intimate, even when you don't know the person well. We've all had a bad day at work where some customer, patient, co-worker blows up in our face and throws insults the same as punches. Or, sometimes a stranger in passing can say just the perfect thing we needed to hear, leaving us wondering if angels really do walk among us.

Throughout my life I have spoken and been spoken too. Here are some of the words that
made an impression on me. As if these words play on some sort of film reel, they revisit me from time to time. Some were pleasant, some were hurtful, all were sincerely delivered to me in the moment. Some were true, some were wrong, some I find impossible to share.

If my life should ever flash before my eyes I am sure that these words will replay in my mind one last time.

"Kary, you should never worry because things work out for you, they always do."

"You will never make it on your own!!!"

"Pretty girls almost always fly."

"You deserve to be happy."

"I may have been with someone, but I always felt alone until I found you."

"Mommy, I love you!"

"Hello daughter-in-law."

"I cannot wait until you are gone!"

The "I am sorry" not spoken in words, but said just by holding my hand while I cried.

"Here, he is all yours, enjoy him."

"You can do anything you have to do."

"I just don't think I love you anymore."

"It was nothing you did. Something was genetically wrong. I know it doesn't seem like it at the time, but it is really a blessing in disguise."

"Time and truth go hand in hand."

"When we die we are just taking a vacation to heaven."

"Sorry, you just missed her."

"I LOOoooove you." sung

"I don't like liars."

"Hey Friend!"

"Look down and see your baby girl."

"In the end it doesn't matter who is wrong or right. If one of you wants to go then there is nothing you can do to stop it from happening."

"I do!"

"When I think of you......."

"I love you six million."

"We will get through this."

"Here's to the first day of forever."

"I'll see you soon."

A Photograph

Blogger is not working for me tonight...so this blog (if I ever get it posted) is going to be short and sweet!

Yesterday we took a road trip to Oliver Winery.

It is a beautiful place to go and hang out for an afternoon. Even Macey had a good time in the garden, feeding the fish, and eating grapes while we sampled the wine.
Here Macey is taking a pic on her camera phone...what can I say, a girl after my own heart?

It is one of the few winery's that I have gone to that lets you sample most of their wines, and it is free.

Macey was taking pictures right along with me. while I was trying to take a few of her some stranger came over and offered to take our photograph together. He went on to tell that his dad was a professional photographer and he was never in any photos because he was always on the other side of the camera.

Thanks to him...Macey has a picture of us at a beautiful place on a sunny summer afternoon!

Macey's special secret

Today totally out of the blue Macey said she wanted to get her ears pierced. It was almost dinner time, but she said she really wanted to and had been thinking about it for a long time...could we go? So we did!

It was gruling...I didn't believe that she would actually follow through once we got there...but one hour later she finally did it.

Here are a few pics...most of the time I was holding her hand.

So heads up Grammy, Papa, Mamoo, Papsy, Aunt Katie, Uncle Brian, Aunt Smelly Kelly, Uncle Shreck, Regina, Scottie, Kate, Sid, Jerry and Jessica, Adam, Gavin, Maddie, Taylor. You didn't see this here on the blog...you noticed all on your own!

What my Kids Say Vs. What my Kids Really Mean...

When Gavin says, "I can't find my favorite shirt. I've been looking all over for it!"

He means, "Will you look for my shirt cuz, I just don't feel like it right now!"
Usually it is sitting in the middle of the floor with all his other clothes.

When Macey calls out in the middle of the night, "Mommy I have fears!"

What she means is, turn my night light on, and come lay down with me until I fall back asleep.

"Gavin," I ask, "How many (you fill in the blanks....pickles, cookies, zebra cakes) did you eat today?" "Just one or so." He will reply.

To Which I will find an empty container, or just one left.

When Macey exclaims in the middle of the night, "My tummy hurts!"

What it means is that she is going to throw up right now, if she has not already done so while speaking the sentence.

When Macey is silent with sad eyes...
It means guilty!

When Gavin says, "I need you to sign something for me."

It means, my teacher wants you to know that I did or didn't do something today.

When it is bedtime and one of them suddenly remembers that they need to go to the store, followed by an amount of classmates...

You can count on the fact that you have snack duty the next day.

"Your the BESTEST mommy in the whole wide world. I love you so much."
It means one of the following:

Can I have it?
Will you let me?
Can I keep it?
Will you buy me?

When they ask, "Did I eat good?"

They really are asking "Did I eat enough for dessert?"

When Gavin says, "No mom. I don't need you to drive me to school anymore."

He really means, I am getting too old for my momma right now. But I am not worried...I know he will be back.

Lazy Weekend

I love a lazy weekend! We still got a few things done around the house, but we still found time to swim.

Thank you Merv, Doreena and Belle for having us! We all got a little sun...might be some of the last of the summer season.

Train

Here it is ... my brush with fame...

I never tire of these guys...I sing with them everyday in my car!

This group for whatever reason is so much a part of US...me and Paul, they were kind of our first date. I had them sign our 2003 ticket stub.

I figure when my kids are older they will hear a Train song and think of me. Just like when I hear James Taylor, Bread, and a handful of others, I always thinking of my childhood and my parents.

I just love them!

A Girl's Getaway

My mom called me last week and asked if Macey and I were up for a girl's getaway to St. Louis. Of course we were in. Paul was working, and Gavin was at his dad's, and it was a chance for one last fling before school, which starts tomorrow.

The first day we went to St. Charles Missouri, and shopped, ate and shopped more. It reminded me of Brown County, but with also a little of Broadripple in Indy with all its cool boutiques.

We had dinner in the rain...

The best was Sunday when we went to the Botanical gardens. We had only planed to spend a few hours, but easily spent over five...and could have spent more. My mom and sister are totally into plants..and thought I was bored, but no way. I learned and saw a lot, and as a mom it is a cool place to take your kids.

So here goes...a warning....lots, and lots of pics!!!!
Macey and my sister Kate at the entrance to the garden.

Sit here,

and look up...

We went to this beautiful garden and feed these greedy and fat fish...

These little pads can hold a toddler.

Macey and my mom found this cool tree to hid in.

This was one of me and Macey's favorite plants...a very sensitive fern that was sensitive and when you touched him he closed up...he was ticklish!

How about this plant...a larger than life Venus fly trap...for real!

A pineapple ginger plan...

Bananas anyone?

This plant is called the American Beauty.

I learned that Cypress trees have knees, did you know that?

Did you know that Lotus leaves are water repellent?

This statue was made for the World's Fair.

Macey found a cool tree house!

Five hours later we headed home...here is a drive by of the Arch.

and one tired kid who would not admit defeat and covered her head to go to sleep in the car!

a fun weekend!
