No Heat Curl (with Headband)

Yesterday I found this link (see below) on Pintrest. It looked easy enough so Macey and I went out to buy a few headbands and set up our hair last night to see what kind of curls we would have in the morning.

Poor Macey was so disappointed as she only had a few little curls. She thinks mine looks awesome. But to a six year old a hot mess might look awesome.

As I told my husband who has laughed at me all morning, if only I would have known about this in high school when big hair was in. I feel like I just got a perm.

Maybe it will work for you.

Wildlife

Life is never dull around here! If it is not the kids, it is the animals that we find living in our back yard. Deer, racoons, birds, skunks and this week baby bunnies. Aren't they the cutest things ever?

Dear Beth,

Today I broke my rule and cried at my desk. I arrived late, as usual, and saw my department with puffy eyes, they didn't have to say a thing. I knew that you were gone. I thought of my daughters art work that hangs on your office wall above your computer. I wondered if there were any way at all that I could tell her of your passing that would make her heart break any less. But there is no easy way to tell someone that you love that someone they love has moved to heaven.

Everyday for the past eight years I have spent my work days with you. We have talked about everyone. We have vented, and bitched, and complained. We have laughed. You were the departments mother hen, and medic. You hated to sneeze. You picked the most annoying ring tone alarms on your phone and it seemed they would always go off when you had walked away and I would be stuck to listen to the quack of a duck, or the likes for ten minutes.

You were always prepared for anything any one of us might need in the course of a day; food, maps, dental floss, umbrellas, birthday cards, a nail file, etc.

There is nothing you would not have done for any of us. You were a great listener. You shared everything you had with us from girl scout cookies, your wisdom and your opinion.

My desk looks right into your office. How many times has one of us hung up the phone and we would exchange glances because of weird request we heard the other one get. We've heard each other yell at others, tell them no repeatedly , try to explain something to someone who was either deaf of couldn't speak English.

I am going to miss you!

If I could have just know the last time I saw you was it. I would have told you thanks! Thanks for everything. Thanks for listening. Thanks for your advice. Thank for buying anything my children were selling. Thanks for letting me borrow your umbrella. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

My eyes keep finding your empty office, and I miss you.

God keep you my friend until we meet again! Kary

What fruit is in you?

A few years ago Macey was asking me what fruit she has inside her? "What?" I continued to ask her. She rambled on about strawberries, oranges, bananas, apples, and again wanted to know what she has inside of her. She hadn't even had breakfast yet. I had no idea what she was talking about. Gavin stepped in to tell me that in church the day before at school they talked about the fruits of the spirits. Macey really believed she had a garden of fruit growing inside her body.

Look what I got!!!

I plan to spend my afternoon reading this....
Not even out on the shelves until this summer. I signed up for a free copy on her facebook page...and a few days later I had a package in my mail box with Beth Harbison's new book. They want me to read it and review it. She has written some of my favorite books! If you are looking for a good read, any of hers are good, my favorite is Shoe Addicts Anonymous. It is very naughty, I found myself laughing out loud, and re-reading, thinking..."did she really just write that!?"

A fun day in Indy.

Here are just a bunch of random pic from our visit to Indy. We went to the art fair to kick off my little sisters birthday. Lunch, then some shopping.

Sophie the Elephant

When Macey was only three years old we took a trip to the zoo. While we were there we took the time to see the elephant show. This was where Macey met and fell in love with one of the elephants named Sophie. We even stuck around after the show, waited our turn in line to pat her. Ever since then Macey has has a thing for elephants. Maybe I do too! Now whenever I see an elephant I think of my Macey and the fun we had one summer afternoon at the zoo.

Mother's Day Gifts

Today this was awaiting me on the kitchen table.
What I expected to find was some handmade craft, a rock painted like an animal, or a hand print of some sort, maybe even a weed from the garden.
It made me remember the tooth pic holder Gavin brought back to me from Florida, or the carnival ring he won for me...it was blue the same color as his birthstone.  I love all these crazy tokens.
Last week for my birthday Gavin downloaded my favorite movie and bought me a bag of Skittles.  He watched my favorite movie with me in our hotel room while we shared a bag the bag of Skittles.  He had come a long way from tooth pic holders and carnival rings.
But this is what I got from Macey...Isn't it pretty?!  I was so surprised because I love it, and actually want to wear it.  Hats off to her first grade teacher who went to so much trouble making a nice gift for all of the her students moms.  Not that the other things are bad...it was just a big surprise.
It is funny the way somethings strike us, and how sentimental little things like toot pic holders, rocks and weeds can tug at our heat strings.

While my kids are telling me happy mothers day, I just want to thank my kids for the little things they do all the time to let me know that they love me and think of me.  Macey follows me around like a lost puppy dog, sometimes not allowing much space at all...but I love it.  They all greet me at the door at the end of the day, and I love it.  Gavin still wants me to tuck him in...but now that he is bigger he grabs me and it is hard to get away...and I love it.  Taylor emails me and asks me if I will take her to lunch...and I love it.  Adam and Maddie are so good at checking in with us, and all of their family...and I love that too!  Paul knows when I need a break and steps in ...and I love that too!

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms in my life!

Birthday Weekend

Here are a few of my favorite photos from my birthday weekend in St. Louis. I love the kids at the arch. Gavin wanted to look like he was leaning up against it. Macey wanted to look like she was doing the same when her father was taking her picture. I love how Macey is looking up at the arch. The other pics are from the gardens and St. Charles.

Right now I am sitting at this cool park in St louis, drinking a wine, using my new ipod, blogging, and hanging with my family.

Nearly 40

Here I am on the verge of my 39th birthday. I’ve always had this little game that I have played inside my head. If you could double your age and still be young then you weren’t old. So when I was nine, I would think to myself “in nine more years I will be 18. Eighteen’s not old, and I will most likely still be around when I am 18.” When I got to my thirties, it was a daunting thought to think about sixty. Now if I play the game, to live another 39 years I will be 78 years old. I’ve often wonder where the half way point of my life is. Is it still on the horizon, or did I pass it years ago? And even if I did know, why would knowing it make my life any better? I’ve never heard of anyone else doing this, and I have no idea where I got it…do any of you think this about your age?

Pride

Tonight Gavin invited me to his recognition program at school. He made honor roll all year! Snaps to my Gavin! I was so proud to watch him accept his award. I am sorry I didn't tell anyone to come as I really didn't know what we were going for until I got there. To prove that I didn't even have my camera. To which Gavin was probably happy! Maybe part of it was I was never an honor student, except for once in the 1st or 2nd grade. Great job Gavin! I am so proud of you!
