I love you...but don't tell anyone!

So yesterday when I went to drop off Macey at daycare I stopped to kiss and hug her goodbye as I always do, but only got a hug. Today the same thing happened...but I wasn't giving up without a fight. "Are you to big to give your mom a kiss?" I asked her. She looked around the room and reluctantly gave me a quick kiss on my forehead.

Then Gavin came by my work on his way out of town for the weekend to pick up Gavin's things. I went to kiss Gavin goodbye...and as I started to walk away he threw his arms around me to give me a hug. "I get a hug too?" I asked him...his dad said it was my lucky day.

Maybe there is some truth in that "Mommy's boy, and Daddy's girl." All I know is that as their Mom...I will never stop trying to steal their affection.

An Albino Deer

When we went back to Derby for another quick stay at the river last weekend we saw an albino deer by our cabin...here he is.

I had no idea how rare it is to find these things. The internet stated that it happen in about 1 and 30,000 births. Wow! How cool is that...and we saw him.

Papsy, my father-in-law told me to go right up to him...this is the best it got...and then the poor dear freaked out and started to scale up the rock wall/hill behind him. He did it too!

A Leason Learned: Be Happy for Your Friends

Tonight was Macey's fall program at school. A couple of weeks ago Macey came home all upset because her BFF got picked to sing a solo. And we all know how Macey loves to sing! (If you need a refresher click here.... or here... or even here.)

Last week when she started singing her friends part I started to get nervous that this would not be a solo, but a duet.

Macey told me that her friend was bragging about singing, and I had to reinforce that she was not bragging...just excited about the opportunity and since she was her BFF she was going to hear about it. I told her that she needed to be happy for her friend and be there for her as she might be nervous.

So her friend sang and she did wonderful! I looked over at Macey and this is what I saw...

I can see it in her face...she wanted that so bad! But she didn't even mouth the words. Her best friends brother on the other hand was singing...he knew all the words from hearing his sister sing all week. He licked his mothers hand while she tried to cover his singing little voice.

When her friend was done singing at the mic...she went to stand next to Macey and gave her the cutest...biggest smile of relief, and "I did it" and they went back to singing.

So at the very young age of six Macey learned the lesson of being there for your friend, even if you wish you were in their shoes at that moment.

Finally ...she did it!

Macey got up the nerve to change her earrings. We tried a couple of weeks ago without success. Tonight we did it...and it didn't even hurt!

Snaps for Macey, they look beautiful.

Greetings from Derby Indiana

A few pics from our annual trip to the Ohio River in Derby Indiana at the Cabin on the Rocks...

We ate good, drank lots. Some of us got sick, slept, cried over broken hearts, hiked a trail, sampled some wine, and went to the casino. We carved pumpkins, went to Wal-mart, played Yahtzee and got some sun.

Mamoo and Papsy say this is our last year. Part of me thinks...no way next year would mark a decade for me. But the other part says how about going to Memphis? Beale Street with Papsy and Graceland with Mamoo, and this great little place to eat ribs.

No matter what we do the river will always be special to me and my kids! It's just where we go every fall!

Things are not always what they seem…

The other night when I returned home from a day in Indy I found a pile of my socks in the middle of the hallway. The next morning, I noticed that a single sock of mine was at the end of the hallway in the living room. I cursed under my breath at my husband who must have flung them down the hall in anger. See he has this thing about my socks at the end of the bed.

At night I am cold, so I pile on the layers of clothes along with a good pair of socks. In the middle of the night when I get too hot I kick them off and abandon them there. The end of the bed can be littered with an array of socks, until I run out and think about collecting them again.

I was so angered about this. I wasn’t even there and he was mad about my socks? Worse yet, he has been sick with something terrible so I haven’t even enjoyed the luxury of sleeping in the bed because I don’t want to catch what he has.

So last night he comes down the hall and starts in with the story about how he was laying in bed…and I started to bite my tongue. I was telling myself…”they are just socks, just socks, this is not a big deal, stay calm, just socks...etc” I was sure his comment about my socks was going to provoke me and here we would be having another one of these fights about of all things…socks (click here)!

However, he never mentioned the socks at all. He went on to tell me about how the rail on the bed frame buckled, just when he was going to sleep. This has happened to us a handful of times this year. Let me tell you…it is a major hassle! You will just be laying there and the entire side of the bed falls over. You would like to try and ignore it, but it is an impossible feat. Our bed is just too high to ignore the sudden drop. Then you have to get up, turn on all the lights and dismantle the bed of all its contents, including my socks. I was pleased to hear that my quirk had not frustrated him, but was the weakening of our bed frame that resulted in the broadcast of my socks down the hall. Maybe the weight of all those socks is just too much.

Either way I am sure glad that I kept my mouth shut. Just goes to prove things are not always what they seem.

Dreams of Derby

In honor of our up in coming annual trip to Derby Indiana I thought I would start a count down of sorts of my last eight years at the river.

Here are some photos from 2006...
